Quality levels

ISO 3834 is particularly relevant for companies that perform welding work as part of their production, as the standard is designed to ensure that the welding workshop performs welding work in accordance with the specified requirements and achieves the desired quality and safety. ISO 3834 includes requirements for welding personnel, welding equipment, welding procedures and quality control and is commonly used in industries such as construction, shipbuilding, transportation and the manufacture of pressure vessels and pipelines.

The system is built according to one of the quality levels in the 3834 series, which consists of 6 standards and 3 quality levels. The 3 quality levels are:

3834-4 Elementary quality requirements. This part of the series is intended for welding work with the most stringent quality requirements and targets performance class EXC1 according to EN 1090-1.

3834-3 Standard quality requirements. This part of the series is intended for welding work with quality control requirements equivalent to welding work under performance class EXC2.

3834-2 Complete quality requirements. This part of the standard is intended for welding work with full traceability and reliability requirements corresponding to welding work under performance classes EXC3 and 4.

Preparations to meet the requirements also include training and qualification of welding personnel and inspectors, among other things. 3834-5 provides an overview of the necessary documentation for compliance with the quality requirements.
